The art of becoming: Barbora Neradová on modeling, giving back and inner strength
For Barbora Neradová, growth isn’t just a result of experience — it’s a way of living. From her first modeling trip to Milan at sixteen to working with iconic fashion houses, she quickly established herself in the fashion world. But her story doesn’t end on the runway. With a multicultural heritage and a strong inner compass, Barbora has gradually reshaped her path — embracing roles as a philanthropist, entrepreneur, and advocate for well-being.
Now based in Prague, she balances her work in fashion with real estate, international charity projects, and a commitment to mindful living. A diagnosis of Crohn’s disease at seventeen became a quiet but powerful turning point, teaching her strength, patience, and the value of living with intention.
In this interview, Barbora opens up about personal transformation, the places that shaped her, and why true beauty always begins with purpose.
You have such an inspiring story — model, humanitarian, entrepreneur. If someone asked you today, «Who is Barbora Neradová?», how would you introduce yourself?
I’m someone who’s never been afraid to evolve. I started as a model, but I’ve always been more interested in the why behind things — why stories matter, why people are overlooked, why beauty standards exist. So today, I’d say I’m a model, yes — but also a philanthropist, a businesswoman, and above all, a woman who believes you can live beautifully and still fight for something bigger than yourself.
Do you remember the moment you first felt the pull toward modeling?
I still remember the first time I saw a fashion show on TV. I was completely mesmerized — the music, the energy, the way the models moved like they belonged to another world. Something clicked. I didn’t know how, but I knew I wanted to be part of that.
Looking back at your career, what were the biggest lessons the fashion world taught you?
The biggest lesson? Don’t take ‘no’ as an answer. In fashion, you hear it all the time — for how you look, what you stand for, what you’re capable of. But I learned to treat every «no» as redirection, not rejection. You have to believe in your vision long before anyone else does.
With your Czech, Slovak, German, and Austrian roots, how has your cultural background shaped the way you see the world?
Coming from such a rich mix of cultures taught me to live between worlds — to listen more, adapt quickly, and see beauty in difference. It gave me a deep respect for history, language, and identity. I think it’s made me more open, more curious, and more rooted in who I am — even when I’m constantly moving.
Of all the cities you’ve lived or worked in — Milan, New York, Miami, Vienna — is there one that still calls you back emotionally? What makes a place feel like home to you?
Home isn’t just one place for me — it’s a feeling I’ve found in many cities. Milan, where I’ve been over 30 times, holds a piece of my heart. Miami feels like home with its incredible community and energy, and I hope to spend a few months there each year in the future. Right now, New York is calling me with its pace and endless possibilities. I’m grateful to carry pieces of all these places with me wherever I go.
Beyond the modeling, you’ve committed deeply to charitable work. What was your «turning point» moment that made giving back so essential for you?
I truly believe we are incredibly lucky — more than many others — and it should feel natural to help with love and grace. Giving back isn’t just an act; it’s a responsibility, a way to honor that privilege and make kindness part of everything I do.
You were diagnosed with Crohn’s disease at 17. How did that experience reshape your relationship with your body and your sense of strength?
Crohn’s has been my biggest teacher. It taught me patience, resilience, and how to listen to my body in a way I never had before. It made me stronger — not in spite of it, but because of it.
