Unique Solutions
Argentem Creek Partners pays special attention to lending to emerging markets. And one of the markets is Ukraine. ACP has been working in Ukraine since 2015, when it was founded. This was facilitated by the fact that many employees already had experience in the Ukrainian market, knew its features, business strategy and many other features of the country from the post-Soviet region. For 8 years, the company has invested more than 600 million dollars in Ukraine. The priority was given to companies from the following sectors of the economy: transport, metallurgy, energy, logistics, and agriculture.
The name of Argentem Creek Partners in Ukraine is associated with such giants of the Ukrainian industry as Agroholding Mriya, DTEK, Interpipe, Lemtrans.
Cases in Ukraine
One of the first and successful projects implemented by Argentem Creek Partners in Ukraine was the case of Ukraine's largest agricultural holding, Mriya. After the invasion of the Russian Federation in 2014 on the territory of Ukraine, the holding announced a default. And it was a strong blow to the country's economy. Analysts pointed to serious mismanagement, misappropriation of funds, and billion-dollar debts. ACP bought out the debts of the agricultural holding and started upgrading the business. For four years, the company has managed to bring the business into the zone of profitability, transparent management and international standards. And in 2019, ACP, having realized its investments, sold the agricultural holding to a major player from the agricultural sector. This project is considered to be unprecedented in the history of Ukrainian business, as an example of a reasonable approach to the restructuring process was created and implemented. And for the first time in Ukraine's history, external creditors gained control of the company through an offshore bankruptcy process, as well as recognition of their claims.
In 2017, Argentem Creek Partners starts cooperation with two large Ukrainian companies at once: Interpipe and DTEK. For Interpipe, ACP developed and implemented a restructuring strategy that allowed the company to avoid losses due to its withdrawal from the Russian market after 2014. These actions allowed the company to lay the foundation for future growth and retain jobs at the enterprise. Argentem Creek Partners works with DTEK in the green energy sector. The corporation invests with DTEK Energy bonds (wind, solar power plants) to this day.
Cooperation with Lemtrans. In the fall of 2018, ACP bought out the lease agreement for Lemtrans, the largest railway operator in Ukraine, from a closing bank. In addition to transportation by gondola cars, the business owns repair and technical facilities. Cooperation with Argentem Creek Partners allowed the corporation to develop go further by investing more than $500 million in development. ACP investment in this case is fully completed.
Argentem Creek Partners is currently working with GNT Terminals case. It is part of a large group of companies GNT Group with Cypriot registration. In the fall of 2019, ACP invested in the development of a large logistics center (grain hub), a terminal in the port of Odessa. In Ukraine, this stevedoring business operates through Olympex Coupe International LLC. The owners of the entire group of companies are Serhiy Groza and Volodymyr Naumenko. Initially, ACP invested in this company in order to bring management to international standards, as well as to increase the transparency of business.
However, after almost 4 years of cooperation, the results are still not achieved. At the same time, the GNT Group acts manipulatively and tries to use military actions in Ukraine to block the implementation of the cooperation strategy conceived at the start. At the same time, the same GNT Group hides the fact that it is active in economic activity and continues to trade, hiding this information from creditors. This organization is assisted by contracting companies of different jurisdictions associated with the owners of the GNT Group. For ACP, this approach is unacceptable, and therefore the director of Argentem Creek Partners shared information with the media about the steps being taken in response.
