This 1,500-Mile Lexus LS400 Never Learned How To Spy On You

Finding a clean Lexus LS400 isn’t wildly difficult. Finding one that looks like it just rolled out of a California showroom in 2000 is another story entirely. This Platinum Series example is that car. It’s spent around two decades sitting around waiting for its next owner. That person could be you. Just bring your checkbook, because there are plenty of reasons lots of people might want it.Currently listed on Bring a Trailer, the Black Onyx sedan features Lexus’ revered 4.0-liter 1UZ-FE V8 with VVT-i. When new, it made 290 hp (216 kW) and 300 lb-ft (407 Nm). Power routes to the rear wheels through a five-speed automatic. Importantly, a recent recommissioning included fresh fluids, a battery, fuel tank, fuel pump, fuel-level sender, and new tires. The mileage is remarkable, but that’s only part of the appeal. The LS400 is the car that established Lexus as a legitimate luxury brand in America by proving you didn’t need a German badge to enjoy whisper-quiet refinement, impeccable build quality, and bulletproof reliability. More than 25 years later, it remains one of the industry’s benchmark luxury sedans for long-term durability.Read: 23-Year-Old Lexus LS400 With 141k Miles Looks Like It Just Rolled Off The Showroom FloorIt’s also a reminder of a luxury-car era that’s quietly disappeared. Inside you’ll find real wood, real leather, physical buttons, a cassette deck, and a six-disc CD changer. What you won’t find are over-the-air updates, subscriptions, driver-monitoring cameras, or systems quietly sending vehicle data back to the manufacturer. It simply starts, drives, and keeps your business to itself. What happens in this LS400 stays in this LS400.The downside is that this Lexus has become almost too perfect. Its condition all but guarantees it will end up tucked away in a climate-controlled garage instead of doing what LS400s do best: effortlessly piling on hundreds of thousands of miles. That’s understandable from a collector’s perspective. But it’s easy to root for an auction winner that’ll actually put this museum-piece back on the road with regularity. That kind of winner would be doing the car a favor. A sedan built to swallow interstates deserves better than trophy status under fluorescent lights. The auction ends soon, so go put in a bid over on BaT here before someone locks it away forever.
